DIAGO - Design of a modular sofa
Project for Bemade
DIAGO, modular sofa design with diagonal lines for Bemade by Joly Design in 2025.
The Diago sofa
The Diago is a design of a modular sofa built around the principle of the diagonal, a direct line capable of connecting two opposing points while simplifying circulation through space. This logic structures the entire project and gives shape to a minimalist, raw, and mineral sofa defined by simple volumes and taut lines. Free from superfluous ornament, the design favors a clear reading of forms and a strong architectural presence. The 45-degree cut planes move precisely through the volumes, reinforcing a continuous sense of movement toward the essential.
Diagonal geometry and sculpted volumes
The construction of Diago relies on a succession of modules defined by sharp edges and assertive diagonal cuts. This geometry visually structures the composition while naturally creating alcoves between the elements. Through this approach, the sofa develops a silhouette that feels both compact and sculptural, capable of organizing space without overwhelming it. The taut lines strengthen the mineral aspect of the project, while the solid volumes express a radical yet highly legible aesthetic.
Flexible modularity and evolving layouts
The diagonal concept allows Diago to offer a highly flexible modular system. Furnishing elements integrate naturally within the recessed spaces of the sofa, opening the way to multiple configurations. This construction makes it possible to create linear, open, or more enveloping layouts depending on the intended use and spatial constraints. The system therefore preserves a strong sense of freedom while maintaining the graphic coherence of the original design.
