VOCALE, sculptural armchair design for Kler by Joly Design in 2025.
The VOCALE model explores a formal language based on the tension between balance and imbalance. Its silhouette relies on a carefully controlled cantilevered structure, giving the whole an almost aerial sense of lightness. The frame adopts a distinctive and timeless Z-shape, where each segment contributes to a continuous, deliberate line. This dynamic geometry gives the armchair a sculptural presence while maintaining a clean, legible design.
The slightly flared armrest evokes an abstract floral motif. This detail softens the rigor of the design and introduces a subtle yet deliberate poetic note to an otherwise essentialist composition. The choice of structural simplicity is balanced by a strong focus on proportions, thickness ratios, and line continuity—bringing understated yet evident elegance to the piece.
The comfort of the VOCALE model relies on the controlled flexibility of its structure. The seat offers a gentle, subtle rocking motion, generated by the cantilever effect and the engineered flexing of the seat itself. This discreet dynamic creates an active and fluid sense of support, in harmony with the chair’s sculptural aesthetic and intended residential or hospitality use. The motion, enhanced by precise calibration of materials and form, emerges directly from the structural logic, fully integrated into the chair’s visual language.
This sculptural armchair design is intentionally slender, balancing visual lightness with mechanical strength. The controlled flex ensures comfort while providing the necessary support without adding bulk to the product’s profile. The frame is upholstered in leather or textile coverings selected for their resilience, texture, and clarity. Manufacturing is carried out with close attention to line tension, curve continuity, and the precision of every visible junction.
