STONEROW is part of the Summer Edition of Joly Design’s Creative Lab, a private collection of exclusive models envisioned as a space for formal freedom. Each piece in the series reflects an expressive vision, inspired by summer imagery, natural materials, and ancestral landscapes. The STONEROW sofa embodies a sculptural approach, somewhere between raw nature and human intervention. It evokes a living form, resting in space like a mineral relic that is both archaic and contemporary.

Stacked modules and fluid arrangement

STONEROW is built on a modular system inspired by the stacked stones found along hiking trails. Each element captures an instinctive gesture: placing, balancing, building. The volumes connect in a smooth, continuous flow, with no visual breaks. This structure allows for multiple configurations, adaptable to the space, intended use, and surrounding environment. The overall design composes a landscape in itself, stable yet open to movement.

Raw textures and landscape materials

The choice of materials enhances the sofa’s sculptural identity. The upholstery features a pronounced weave, echoing the tactile quality of stone. This visually raw fabric accentuates the model’s full volumes and underscores the density of its shapes. Each surface is designed to improve the object’s clarity, while reinforcing its connection to matter, ground, and landscape. The finish reflects a crafted attention to detail; where contemporary design meets the memory of ancient gestures.

Built presence and irregular rhythm

STONEROW is the design of an organic sofa that recalls the cairns raised by humans across traversed landscapes. Archaic and fragile yet enduring forms, these markers guide and bear witness. The sofa translates this symbolism into a contemporary language, embracing a deliberately irregular rhythm built from distinct modules. The composition introduces a strong presence, one that can inhabit both structured spaces and open interiors, always in direct relation to nature and the formal origins of design.
